Translating driving licences

Do I need an official translation of my driving licence?
If you hold a driving licence from an EU country, a translation is not necessary.
In the case of non-EU countries, on the other hand, it is possible to circulate in Italy for a maximum period of 1 year by presenting an official translation (sworn or certified translation) of the licence together with it.
After this period, you have to exchange your driving licence.
Please remember that in addition to the sworn translation, you must always have your driving licence in the original language with you.
How can I obtain a sworn translation of my driving licence?
The procedure is very simple.
Simply send us a scan or a clear photo of your driving licence (both front and back). If you prefer, you can come directly to our office and we will take care of the scanning.
We will arrange for the full translation of the licence and subsequent swearing at the competent Court or Justice of the Peace Office.
We will then provide you with a sworn translation that you can present at the Department of Motor Vehicles (Motorizzazione) or at the driving school that is handling your paperwork.
If you do not live in Ravenna, no problem. We can send you the sworn translation by registered mail throughout Italy.
How long does it take to get the translation?
Delivery times normally range from 2 working days to a maximum of one week.
